NFL Rumors: Jacksonville Jaguars Set to Hire Mike Mularkey as Head Coach

Old AccountJun 7, 2018

The Jacksonville Jaguars made it clear throughout their process that the next head coach was going to be an offensive coordinator.

After interviewing this week, it appears Mike Mularkey will be the next head coach of the Jaguars.

Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union reports that the former Falcons offensive coordinator will be leading a team that is in need of improvement on the offensive side of the football.

The Jaguars interviewed Mularkey on Tuesday, and was content with making him their new head coach after Jay Gruden turned down an opportunity to interview for the head coaching position.

Mularkey has NFL head coaching experience, leading the Buffalo Bills in 2004 and 2005.

His biggest task is to aid in the development of quarterback Blaine Gabbert, who the organization believes to be the future of the franchise as the Jaguars look to get back on top of the AFC South.

In Atlanta, Mularkey has helped Matt Ryan develop into one of the better young quarterbacks in the league.

Reaction: I have mixed reviews on this higher. I agree that the Jaguars need to go with an offensive coach, but is Mularkey the answer? The Falcons had Super Bowl aspirations because of their offense, which drafted Julio Jones last season.

Mularkey will be given a second chance as head coach, with a big challenge awaiting in Jacksonville.
