2012 Super Bowl: Kim Kardashian Gets Axed from Skechers Super Bowl Ad

Michael DixonJan 10, 2012

Apparently, the only thing with more appeal than a Kardashian is a dog. That makes perfect sense. If you think about it, few things sell better than sex and animals. Last year, Skechers went with the sex route during Super Bowl XLV. For Super Bowl XLVI, they are going to lean on an animal to sell their product. It's worth a shot.

According to Bruce Horovitz of USA Today, Skechers is insisting that the negative fallout around Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries' divorce has nothing to do with the move. I don't buy it.

The ad generated plenty of buzz last year. Generally speaking, anything with Kim Kardashian will do that. This was certainly no different.

But according to Horowitz, Skechers now has four times the amount of fans on Facebook that it had before the ad. Even they're not denying that Kardashian had a huge part of that.

So, if your numbers grew in a huge way, then why would you even think to go away from keeping someone like Kardashian in? With the Super Bowl nearly a month away, you could even come up with something that includes both Kardashian and a dog.

So then the question becomes, do I believe the decision to dump Kardashian was a good one? No, I don't. Even though they're denying it had anything to do with the decision, I get that Kardashian does have some baggage attached to her.

So what? If you think the absolute worst of Kim Kardashian, I guarantee that there are worse people in the world. I also guarantee that some of them have been used in commercials. It's a part of the world. A little controversy sells. Throw in someone who has the looks and notoriety of Kardashian, it's only going to work in your favor.

At the very least, what they needed to do was give her an advertisement this year to see if has negative backlash that actually hurts sales. As it is now, Skechers just grouped itself in to the rest of the pack.

When you watch Super Bowl XLVI, you will see a lot of commercials that feature dogs or other animals. It's going to be hard to separate one from the other. You won't see a lot of commercials that feature Kim Kardashian. By taking her off, you make your product fail to stand out.

Given how much Skechers acknowledges that Kardashian has helped them in the last year, she was owed another commercial. Skechers made a curious decision in not bringing her back, and it's going to hurt them a lot more than Kardashian in the end.
