The Biggest Winners and Losers of the Final College Football Coaches Poll

Randy ChambersJun 7, 2018

With the Alabama victory over the LSU Tigers, that only means one thing: the college football season is officially over with. Now we have to wait several months for the games to come back around. But that doesn't mean that we stop talking about the sport we all love.

With the season over, the last Coaches Poll has been released. Alabama finished No.1 with a total of 71 more points than LSU. Although there are a few other surprises and a few teams that don't belong where they're ranked.

Here are a few winners and losers for this seasons last Coaches Poll.

Alabama: Winner

1 of 4

Sure, Alabama only moved up one spot in the rankings, but many believed they didn't even belong in the national championship game. After a dominating performance against the LSU Tigers, they're now the clear cut No.1 team in the Coaches Poll as they have 71 more points than the Tigers.

The Crimson Tide allowed less than 100 total yards and LSU only crossed the 50 yard line once. You have to agree with where they're at in the poll.

Alabama is a big winner as they turned the whole college football world into believers.

West Virginia: Losers

Even after the Mountaineers destroyed the Clemson Tigers, they only moved up four spots in the Coaches Poll. Uh, the score was 70-33. They held the Clemson Tigers to under 40 points, which many teams couldn't do and score 70 points. Which by the way, is the most points in the history of any bowl game.

You would think they would have moved up a few more spots and earned a little bit more respect from the voters. Even Virginia Tech is above them. The same team that was beaten by Clemson twice this year and lost their bowl game to Michigan.

LSU: Winners

3 of 4

I know the Tigers had a very impressive season beating everybody by double-digits and knocking off several ranked teams. But by the way they lost to the Crimson Tide in the national championship, you could make a case for why Oklahoma State should be No.2 instead of them. LSU only crossed the 50 yard line once and didn't even rack up 100 total yards.

Even when you look back at the last game between Alabama and LSU, the Crimson Tide should have won that game as well if it weren't for four missed kicks. Alabama proved they were the better team and LSU is fortunate they didn't fall to No.3 in the Coaches Poll.

Boise State: Losers

4 of 4

Now, it will be hard for Boise State to jump any of the teams that are currently above them, but they're still losers in the Coaches Poll. They finished the year with only one loss and No.6 in the Coaches Poll. They then beat down a talented Arizona State team by the score of 56-24 and remain No.6 in the poll.

They did fall just short of jumping Arkansas for the No.5 spot, but remaining at the same place you were before an impressive victory shows Boise gets no respect. Now with pretty much their entire team leaving, the Broncos may not be this high in the polls for a long time.
