Oakland Raiders: Does The Left Hand Know What The Right Is Doing?

Raider Card AddictJan 3, 2009

You have to wonder if anyone in the head office talks to anyone right now in Oakland.

Earlier last week, a report was circulating that the Raiders were looking at 3-5 candidates for the head coaching job opening up in Oakland. The usual suspects aside, it was a given on a few of the names like James Lofton, Kevin Gilbride, and a few others. This is all fine and dandy, except when someone named John Herrera claims there's no merit to these rumors.

"None of the reports are true," Herrera said. "Every one is false and unfounded. They're just throwing pie against the wall."

Now, along comes a tidbit from the NFL.com people and Adam Schefter, who reports the Raiders have contacted and received permission to interview Gilbride from the New York Giants, and that it would occur on Saturday afternoon, yesterday.

Again, all fine and dandy...and here comes John Herrera's mouth again. According to him, the Raiders hadn't requested permission to speak with Gilbride...or for that matter, he also seemed to leave it all up in the air when making the speculation that there was a possibility that it would happen sometime.

So, does John Herrera now own the Public Relations job of the Oakland Raiders? As a Senior Executive, who did he wrestle to seize control of this fun task? And does he remain in contact with Al Davis, who seems to be conducting the interview processes on a "I'll tell you after it happens" basis?

The Raider Nation would like to know and get a solid, verified response...it helps remove all the gossip and also removes the chances that John Herrera will have to wrestle any more reporters in the near future.
