LSU vs. Alabama: Was Alabama's Defense That Good or Jordan Jefferson That Bad?

The main thing we can take away from Alabama's 21-0 victory over LSU in the BCS Championship Game was the absolutely dominating performance from the Crimson Tide defense.

There weren't many football teams around that were going to have success against Alabama tonight the way that defense performed.

Looking back though, you have to ask the question: Was the Alabama defense that good, or was LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson that bad?

There's no doubt about it.

Jefferson was bad.

But all the credit here goes to the Alabama defense.

Jefferson was bad because the Alabama defense made him that way.

Alabama has been fantastic on the defensive side of the ball all season long, leading the nation in pass defense, rush defense and almost every other meaningful statistical category out there.

They allowed only 8.8 points per game coming into tonight and surrendered only nine touchdowns all season long.

If that's not impressive enough, tonight Alabama took things to a new level of dominance.

In an effort worthy of the history books, the Crimson Tide not only pitched a shutout, but allowed only 92 yards of total offense on the night.

Are you kidding?

That's an amazing all-around effort by the Crimson Tide defense. Every single yard LSU gained on the night was a hard-fought yard. Alabama made the Tigers fight for every last inch.

There have been some great historic defenses throughout time, but you can put this Alabama unit up against each and every one of them.

The way they attack and put pressure on an opposing offense says a lot. So does the amount of future NFL stars wearing an Alabama helmet. They play as a team defensively for four quarters, and that's why they are so good.

Jefferson and LSU were bad tonight for one reason and one reason only.

The Alabama defense wouldn't permit them to be good.
