LSU vs Alabama Highlights: Watch Video of the BCS National Championship Game
You figured the 2012 BCS National Championship Game between defensive powerhouses Alabama and LSU would be a low-scoring game, but the Crimson Tide simply flattened the Tigers on Monday night, 21-0.
LSU starting quarterback Jordan Jefferson was just awful and the Alabama defense was unforgiving, as Crimson Tide stars such as cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick and linebacker Courtney Upshaw had big games.
Not only did Jefferson pass for 53 yards and an interception, he also rushed for only 17 yards as a dual-threat quarterback and lost a fumble in the process.
While the Crimson Tide didn't score a lot of points, there were some big plays on offense, including this spectacular catch-and-throw from sophomore quarterback A.J. McCarron to receiver Marquis Maze that dropped right over LSU star Tyrann Mathieu's shoulder:
However, Alabama's interception did cost them linebacker Clint Mosley, who reportedly suffered a femur fracture or knee dislocation after being tackled by Jefferson on the return in the third quarter, according to medical expert Dr. Mark Adickes of FoxSports.com.
This was a bit of redemption for Alabama's kicking game. After missing four field goals against LSU on Nov. 5 in the regular season, the kicking game was on track on Monday. Jeremy Shelley went 5-of-7, including a 44-yarder, and was on point for most of the evening.
Alabama running back Trent Richardson also made an impact in this game. After being limited for most of the game, he capped off the blowout with a 34-yard touchdown run with 5:40 remaining in the fourth quarter. He ended up with 95 rushing yards and a touchdown in his last game with the Crimson Tide before the NFL draft.
Upshaw also had a big game, collecting a sack along the way, and was named defensive MVP for the game. He's likely a lock for the first round of the NFL draft.
The win gave legendary head coach Nick Saban his third career national title and knotted his career record against LSU head coach Les Miles at 3-3.
