Tyrann Mathieu: Honey Badger Will Lock Up 2012 Heisman in BCS Championship

Brandon GalvinJun 5, 2018

The Honey Badger is going to head into the 2012 campaign the hands-down Heisman favorite.

It doesn't matter if the LSU Tigers lose to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the 2012 BCS National Championship Game; it certainly wouldn't be because of Tyrann Mathieu.

The Honey Badger rarely makes mistakes (unless it's something off the field that will lead him to a measly suspension, of course).

We are witnessing one of the most impressive defensive college players ever. His ball-hawking skills are supreme and unmatched at this level of the game. If only he could declare for the draft, he would easily be a top-five selection.

The Honey Badger laughs at the likes of Alabama's A.J. McCarron attempting to shy away from him. The Honey Badger will find a way to make a play, arguably the most important play of any game.

When somebody has "it," that's just all there is to, well...it. There's no explaining "it." The universe just revolves around players like this. He is the Cam Newton, LeBron James, TIM TEBOW of defense, if you will.

He has immense charisma on and off the field that forces people to take notice of him. It is the way he carries himself with supreme confidence and swagger. He makes everyone around him better and will be the driving force of the defense with Morris Claiborne likely in the NFL next year.

Former LSU standout Patrick Peterson was my No. 1 prospect in last year's NFL draft. Whenever Mathieu comes out, he too will be my top prospect.

Much like Peterson, there's no doubt in my mind that a player of Mathieu's caliber could step on to LSU's offense and be the No. 1 playmaker. In fact, the Tigers would be far better if they let the man play on offense, defense and special teams.

It is his insane athleticism and ball-hawking skills that will make him the instant favorite to begin the 2012 college football season.

If the lethal Honey Badger could amass 54 solo tackles, five forced fumbles, 1.5 sacks, two picks and two return touchdowns as a sophomore, I can't even imagine what he's going to do as a bigger, faster and stronger junior.

He has all of the skills necessary to dominate any level of football. A surefire top-five pick when he declares for the NFL draft, he will be the hands-down early-season favorite to win the 2012 Heisman as a defender.

You can't neglect game-changers of this caliber. There is no denying the skills. There is no denying the unforgettable plays that force us to keep Mathieu in the forefront of our minds whenever college football is even thought of, let alone whispered about.

He will be on full display in the national championship for the entire world to see. You better believe he's going to leave us a lasting image heading into the 2012 offseason.
