NFL Draft 2012: Identifying the 4 Most Dynamic Draft Prospects

Andrea HangstJun 7, 2018

The NFL draft is a way for teams to not just build depth at a number of crucial positions, it's also a way to acquire the dynamic playmaker of the future, a guy who will instantly transform the team and the players around him into a better squad.

Every year, top prospects emerge as having the greatest potential to make a major impact on the field in their rookie seasons. Here are four of them.

QB Robert Griffin III, Baylor

1 of 4

There are few players more exciting or dynamic in this year's NFL draft than Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III, and if he declares as expected, he's going to be quite the acquisition for whichever team drafts him.

Griffin isn't the top quarterback prospect in the 2012 draft, but there are certainly teams that find him more interesting and game-changing than the consensus No. 1 pick, Stanford's Andrew Luck.

In his senior season, Griffin completed 267 of his 369 pass attempts for 3,998 yards and 36 touchdowns to just six interceptions. Mobile and fast, he also carried the ball 161 times for 644 yards and nine more scores.

He's a more accurate Cam Newton, or at least he seems like he will be. He will likely be the starting quarterback for the team that selects him and should shore up being that team's franchise player for many years to come.

RB Trent Richardson, Alabama

2 of 4

While finding a sure-thing running back in the NFL draft is difficult, with a number of top picks in recent years not having the kind of success they were projected to have, there's little risk when it comes to Alabama's Trent Richardson.

Richardson is one of the best running back prospects to enter the draft in recent years. With so few teams fielding a dedicated feature back, Richardson's presence on his new team is likely to dramatically change the offense in a good way.

In 2011, Richardson rushed 263 times for 1,583 yards and 20 touchdowns, and he caught 27 passes for 327 more yards and three additional scores. He's fast, powerful and extremely hard to tackle and has excellent blocking skills to boot.

Richardson is a complete player already. In an NFL offense, he might just be unstoppable.

WR Justin Blackmon, Oklahoma State

3 of 4

Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon is projected to be a top pick in the 2012 NFL draft, and one look at his statistics makes it pretty clear as to why.

Blackmon has great hands and makes up for his subpar speed with power. In 2011, he caught 121 passes for 1,522 yards and 18 touchdowns. While that's certainly impressive, it pales in comparison to his 2010 season, in which he caught 111 passes for 1,782 yards and 20 scores.

With a big passing game becoming more and more important in the NFL, a top-tier receiver is on the must-have lists for a number of teams. Unless he has a poor showing at the Combine, don't expect Blackmon on the board after the first seven picks.

ILB Luke Kuechly, Boston College

4 of 4

Dynamism isn't just limited to the offensive side of the football. There are a number of talented, game-changing prospects on defense in the 2012 NFL draft, including Boston College inside linebacker Luke Kuechly.

Kuechly, a likely first-round pick, has been one of the top college linebackers in his last three seasons. In 2011, he notched 102 solo tackles and three interceptions, one resulting in a touchdown.

He's never had fewer than 142 combined tackles in each of the last three seasons and should improve any defensive squad that has trouble wrapping up and bringing down running backs.

Kuechly's best asset is his intelligence. He knows the game extremely well and has the ability to anticipate offenses play after play. His relentless pursuit of the ball plus his ability to cover receivers over the middle should make him a valuable starter right away.

Kuechly not only has the skills to make a difference for any pro team smart enough to take him, but his dedication to the game makes him liable to be a long-time leader of his defensive squad. For all around talent as well as football knowledge, there are few linebackers to rival Kuechly in this year's draft.
