Left-handed pitcher Clayton Tanner has signed a minor league contract with the Cincinnati Reds, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer. It's his second tour with the Reds.

The 6’2″ 205-pounder was selected in the third round of the 2006 amateur draft right out of high school and spent the next six years in the San Francisco Giants’ minor league system, climbing as high as Double-A Richmond.

He was dropped from the Giants’ 40-man roster back in August to make room for Eric Surkamp.

In six minor league seasons, Tanner has compiled a 51-43 record, 3.64 ERA, 1.342 WHIP, 6.6 SO/9 rate and 3.1 BB/9 rate.

After the Giants designated Tanner for assignment last fall, the Reds scooped him up and assigned him to their Triple-A Louisville affiliate.

They must have liked what they saw.

At the time he was released, Giants GM Brian Sabean called Tanner’s release a “paper move” and said the Giants were in the process of re-signing the 24-year-old.
