Los Angeles Lakers Sloppy Play Will Doom Their Season

Matt ShetlerJun 7, 2018

So far this season, there has been a lot to like about the Los Angeles Lakers. But there also has been a lot not to like. It's those things that you don't like that could ultimately prevent the Lakers from contending for another championship.

Take a whopping 27 turnovers in last night's win against Memphis, including 14 of those from guards Derek Fisher, Kobe Bryant and Steve Blake. They got the win last night, but guard play like that will eventually doom a team. Every team has bad nights, but a veteran team shouldn't be as sloppy as the Lakers can be at times.

That's one reason why an upgrade at the point guard spot should still be high on the Lakers want list. Make that a point guard that can shoot the ball as well.

Not only are the turnovers a troubling sore spot, but so is the outside shooting of this team, which is another thing that could doom the Lakers.

It's a good thing they have a pair of dominant big guys, because otherwise, they would be in big trouble.

The Lakers currently are only shooting 24 percent from behind the three-point line. Only the Memphis Grizzlies are shooting a worse percentage.

Other than the big guys, no one is shooting a good percentage from the floor.  Even Bryant is on pace for a career-low percentage from the field.

Solid guard play and shooting, in addition to their solid post play, can make the Lakers a dominant team in the league. Without it, they could eventually be doomed.
