Denver Broncos: Ranking Tim Tebow's 'Tebow Times'

John NizinskiJun 7, 2018

The NFL got its first look at "playoff Tebow," and the magic that has been with him this season continued into the postseason.

The Denver Broncos, who were 8-8 during the regular season and underdogs in this game, defeated the 12-4 Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of the playoffs. This win was, fittingly, in overtime, as Tim Tebow ended the game with a touchdown pass.

Urban dictionary defines "Tebow Time"  as "when Tim Tebow is able to win a game in the last few minutes or overtime."

Was this "Tebow Time" the best so far?

7. Minnesota Vikings

1 of 7

When: Week 13

Game Results: Denver Broncos 35, Minnesota Vikings 32

The Vikings were leading the Broncos, 15-7, at halftime. In the second half, Tebow completed six of his nine passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns. The game was tied in the fourth quarter at 32 when a Vikings turnover gave Tim Tebow a shot to put his team in a position to win the game. Tim Tebow got the Broncos in field goal position and ran down the clock to two seconds left. Broncos kicker Matt Prater would then hit a 23-yard field goal to win the game.

This victory over the Vikings in Week 13 put the Broncos atop the AFC West Division, which they would go on to win.

6. Oakland Raiders

2 of 7

When:Week 9

Game Results: Denver Broncos 38, Oakland Raiders 24

The Broncos and Raiders ended the season with the same record, and if the Broncos had not won this game, "playoff Tebow" would have never existed this year.

Going into the fourth quarter, the game was tied at 24. The Broncos would score two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, and although both were not necessarily because of Tim Tebow, his ability to not turn the ball over helped put his team in the position to beat their division counterparts.

5. San Diego Chargers

3 of 7

When: Week 12

Game Result: Denver Broncos 16, San Diego Chargers 13

The Chargers were on a five-game losing streak entering the game and looked as if they had no shot at playing football beyond Week 17. However, had the Chargers won this game and everything else stayed to course, they would have made the playoffs and the Broncos would not have.

The Denver Broncos were losing this game, 10-0, when Tebow hit Eric Decker with a touchdown pass that started the Broncos comeback. The Chargers then led the Broncos, 13-10, in the fourth quarter. After the Chargers missed a field goal, the Broncos drove down the field in six plays to get into field goal range, and Matt Prater sent the game into overtime with a field goal. The Broncos would then win the game in overtime off another Prater field goal.

4. Chicago Bears

4 of 7

When: Week 14

Game Result: Denver Broncos 13, Chicago Bears 10

The Broncos continued their trend of rallying late in games when they beat the Bears in Week 14.

With about four and a half minutes left in the game, the Broncos were trailing, 10-0, and could not get anything going offensively against the Bears defense. Then, Tebow completed seven straight passes to lead Denver on a 63-yard scoring drive which included a touchdown pass from Tebow.

The Broncos scored 10 points, tied the game and sent it into overtime. Once again, Tim Tebow got his team in field goal range, and Matt Prater ended the game in overtime with a long field goal.

3. New York Jets

5 of 7

When: Week 11

Game Results: Denver Broncos 17, New York Jets 13

This game was a defensive battle. The Jets were able to shut down Tim Tebow the whole game; however, Tebow was given a chance at the end of the game.

Stuck at their own 5-yard line, Tebow would lead his team down the field with a 95-yard scoring drive capped by his 20-yard touchdown run with just 58 seconds left. This came against a Jets defense that had given up just 134 yards to the Broncos offensively, not including that 95-yard drive.

2. Miami Dolphins

6 of 7

When: Week 7

Game Results: Denver Broncos 18, Miami Dolphins 15

This was the first "Tebow Time," and had Tim Tebow not led the Broncos to a win over the Miami Dolphins, he would have probably lost his starting quarterback job.

The Broncos were shut out in the first three quarters and looked as if the Dolphins were on their way to winning their first game of the season. This, however, turned around when Tebow and the Broncos began driving down the field in the fourth quarter. Tebow ran for a 13-yard run, then completed a touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas. This left the Broncos trailing the Dolphins, 15-7, with just under three minutes left.

The Broncos got the ball back after a successful onside kick. Tebow continued to complete passes to his receivers and ultimately led to a screen-pass touchdown that brought the Broncos within two points of the Dolphins.

Tebow ran the ball into the end-zone to successful convert the two-point conversion and send the game into overtime. Nick Prater would then do what he does best and ended the game with an overtime field goal.

1. Pittsburgh Steelers

7 of 7

Victim: Pittsburgh Steelers

When: Wild Card round of NFL Playoff's

Game Result: Denver Broncos

This is number one because it's the playoffs.

This occurrence of "Tebow Time" was a little different than the others because the Broncos led the Steelers for the majority of the game.

The Broncos led the Steelers by two touchdowns at halftime. The Steelers came out in the second half and tied the game in the fourth quarter. Ben Roethlisberger was trying to do his best Tim Tebow impression and rally his team to a late victory.

The game went into overtime, and the Broncos received the ball to start. And at the blink of an eye, the game was over. In just 11 seconds, Tebow threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas and ended the game.

Tebow's 11-second overtime touchdown pass made the ending of the game the quickest ending to an overtime in NFL history.

Now, the Broncos move on to face the New England Patriots, where they hope that the magic continues.
