LSU vs Alabama Predictions: Can Les Miles' Reputation Survive an LSU Loss?

Randy ChambersJan 9, 2012

The National Championship is finally here and tonight somebody will be crowned champion.

Although the Tigers enter this game undefeated and already have a win over Alabama this season, they are still a two-point underdog. Despite that, many still expect them to take care of business for a second time and complete the task of running the table.

But what if they don't and Alabama ends up winning? Will head coach Les Miles' reputation be ruined?

Miles is known as the crazy coach who takes unnecessary risks at the most crucial part of the games. For whatever reason, they work majority of the time, but many consider him to be a fraud coach who just gets lucky. Eventually you would expect that luck to run out.

And if it does against Nick Saban and the Tide in the National Championship, many may not look at him the same.

For me it's hard imagining that happening this season. Miles took a team that was facing several off-the-field issues, including starting quarterback Jordan Jefferson who was involved in a bar fight. His team also suffered quite a few suspensions and injuries to key players.

All Miles did was keep his team focused on the task at hand and won every single game up to this point. His team had to play the most difficult schedule in the country, which included eight ranked teams, with three of them being on the road and two of them on neutral sites.

You could argue he has the most talented team in the country, but this is easily the most impressive coaching job he's ever done. It's also arguably the best coaching job this season, just off the brutal schedule and distractions this team has had to face all season long.

Of course, the Tigers want to win this game, but if they don't, it was still a remarkable season for this program and for Miles' coaching resume. It will be a disappointment for this talented team, but looking at everything they've overcome this year, nobody's head should hang low.

Although there may be a few people who say differently.
