NFL's Biggest QB Battles ⚔️

No Matter What Fans Think, They Can't Argue That Tim Tebow Isn't Great for NFL

Ryan PhillipsJun 7, 2018

We all saw the highlights, we've all heard the reactions. Tim Tebow and his Denver Broncos slayed the dragon on Sunday, beating the vaunted Pittsburgh Steelers in overtime, 29-23. Once again, Tebow produced some heroics and now we'll get to hear the arguments all week about what kind of a player the second-year quarterback actually his.

No matter which side of the debate you fall on, no one can argue that Tebow isn't good for the NFL.

Think about it, just six months ago we were all arguing about the NFL's lockout, who was right, who was wrong and how it would end. Now, everyone is discussing whether or not a God-fearing, by all accounts exceptional young man has a future as an NFL quarterback. That's quite a change in just a few months.

Whether or not I believe in Tebow's long-term viability under center in the NFL, I can't deny that there is some level of magic surrounding him. His fiery demeanor, winning attitude and the way lady luck seems to find him, is so incredibly watchable it really makes games fun.

All season, I have been critical of Tebow's ability as a passer. And in that respect, I'm sorry, I am right. On Sunday, Tebow completed just 10 of 21 passes. For the season, he completed just 46.5 percent of his throws, and his passer rating of 72.9 ranked 28th out of the 34 NFL quarterbacks who qualified.

That said, while he may not be a great quarterback, Tebow has proven himself as a football player. I'll admit it, a part of me was pulling for him to somehow figure it out on Sunday and get the Broncos a win. And that is coming from a guy who grew up in San Diego and is a die-hard Chargers fan.

There is just something about Tebow, and while he may not end up as a franchise quarterback in the NFL, the ride we're all on with him right now is something special. And the great public debate surrounding his abilities is one of the most hearty sports discussions we've had in years.

Here's hoping there's more magic on the horizon.
