NBA Trade Speculation: Health of Brook Lopez Has Nets Stuck in Holding Pattern

Brook Lopez's injured foot can't heal fast enough for the Nets. They really need help on the court, as they have started 2-7. The Nets could use Lopez in the middle.

The further reaching benefit is to have a healthy Lopez to offer in a package for Dwight Howard. Lopez's status was updated recently by Stefan Bondy of New York Daily News. He tweeted:

"Brook Lopez, wearing a boot for about another week, says he's confident in medical staff and expects a full recovery. Didn't have timeline"

It seems the Orlando Magic would want a package that included a young big man. Lopez is one of the better young centers in the NBA, but he has been criticized for being soft. That would potentially be a major adjustment for Magic fans to get used to.

While it is something, it is not exactly an attractive centerpiece. It would seem the Nets may need to get another team involved if they are to grab Howard. They certainly don't have much else to offer beyond a healthy Lopez.

All of those possibilities are on hold until Lopez has some concrete timetable for his return. The Magic are wise to play it close to the vest, but many of the most popular rumors are being held up by injuries. 

Lopez's foot, Stephen Curry's ankle and Andrew Bynum's bevy of injuries, though he has been healthy so far this season.

For now, the Nets will wait and lose.
