Army All-American Game 2012: Barry Sanders Jr. Highlights Otherwise Boring Game

Andrew KulhaJun 7, 2018

Barry Sanders Jr. is going to be playing his college ball at Stanford, and for a program that is about to lose Andrew Luck to the NFL draft, they couldn't be luckier.

The younger Sanders' decision to go to Stanford was undoubtedly the biggest moment of the 2012 Army All-American game though.

In fact, unless you had a personal investment in any of the players committing or schools potentially getting players, this was all-in-all a very boring game to watch.

The West team absolutely beat up on the East 24-12, and that's a score that makes it look much closer than it really was.

The East was only able to score two touchdowns, and the second one came at the end of the game when Pittsburgh commit Chad Voytik scrambled from his quarterback position into the end zone.

The East wasn't able to get the extra point on either touchdown.

I understand the premise of the game, and believe me, I think it's excellent to honor both the Army and the All-Stars by giving them a national televised game.

I also understand that it's a unique experience for many college football fans, as they most likely won't see these recruits in any other circumstance before they get on campus.

All I'm saying is, this game was overall very boring, and that seems to be the case with All-Star games in any capacity.

If it weren't for a big-name like Sanders straying away from his father's path and choosing Stanford, we wouldn't have much more to write about.

I understand that these are big moments for the players, their families and the schools.

I must be a horrible person though, because I was left bored more times than not.
