Jameis Winston Would 'Absolutely' Sign Giants Contract After Saquon Barkley Video

Joseph ZuckerFeb 4, 2025

Veteran quarterback Jameis Winston would "absolutely" sign with the New York Giants this offseason.

"I want to keep playing and do what I do best," he said to NJ Advance Media's Ryan Novozinsky.

The comments come after Winston, working for Fox Sports, asked Philadelphia Eagles star Saquon Barkley where he should sign as a free agent. Barkley suggested his old team, the Giants.

Speaking with Novozinsky, Winston was bullish on the team's outlook for 2025. He said he has "a ton of respect for coach Brian Daboll, the things he does offensively" and added the Giants "have a young roster that's ready to win."

The 31-year-old is certainly saying the right things if he's trying to curry favor with Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen.

New York will undoubtedly be involved in the quarterback market this spring since the team doesn't have a single one under contract for 2025. Drew Lock, Tim Boyle and Tommy DeVito are all free agents.

The Giants have the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft. Even if you assume they snag Colorado's Shedeur Sanders or Miami's Cam Ward there, Schoen and Daboll will presumably want an experienced backup.

Winston would fit that bill. He has made 87 career starts and provides a pretty steady baseline for what to expect of him on the field. The 31-year-old threw for 2,038 yards, 12 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in seven starts with the Cleveland Browns this season.

You wouldn't want Winston to be your full-time starter because he's far too mistake-prone, but he'd be a good stopgap or emergency starter, particularly for a franchise that's relying on a young, unproven signal-caller.
