Anthony Davis Says 'Obviously Steph Didn't Shoot It Well' While Hyping Lakers Defense

Andrew PetersJan 26, 2025

Stephen Curry had a rare off night against the Los Angeles Lakers as the Golden State Warriors lost 118-108 on Saturday.

While Curry has been dealing with a thumb injury, Lakers star Anthony Davis credited his team's defense for containing the sharpshooter to just 13 points on 4-of-17 from the field and 2-of-9 from deep.

"Obviously Steph didn't shoot it well," Davis said, per ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk. "But I think a lot of that was on us -- our guards ... constantly getting into the ball, making it tough on him. So I think everybody played a part of the Steph Curry defense that we tried to play on him tonight."

Los Angeles upped the defensive intensity in the second half, forcing Curry to miss all eight of his shots in the final two quarters. The 0-of-8 mark matched the worst shooting half of his career.

Curry didn't blame his injured thumb for the rough night, noting that he hit all eight of his three-point attempts with the same injury against the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this month.

"It sucks, but it's not an excuse for anything," Curry said, per Youngmisuk. "Got to play through it. I went 8-for-8 with it [against the Sixers]. It's just something that has been lingering to the point that it gets hit every once in a while. It's one of those things, it is almost gone and then it gets knocked again. I will deal with it, but it shouldn't bother me like it did tonight."

Thanks to their defensive presence and Davis' 36 points, the Lakers improved to 25-18 and have won five of their last six games as they look to continue climbing up the Western Conference standings.
