Daniel Jeremiah: Abdul Carter 'Best Player' in 2025 NFL Draft over Travis Hunter

Paul KasabianJan 23, 2025

Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter is the best player in the 2025 NFL draft, per Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show.

ESPN's Matt Miller is among those who would agree with that assessment.

Colorado two-way superstar Travis Hunter is widely considered a top prospect as well. He's No. 1 on the B/R NFL Scouting Department big board with a 9.2 grade out of 10 (Carter is 10th overall at 8.3). The latest consensus big board from NFL Mock Draft Database has Hunter third and Carter fourth, behind quarterbacks Cam Ward of Miami and Shedeur Sanders of Colorado.

Jeremiah made his remarks amid recent comments from Tennessee Titans president Chad Brinker saying that the team isn't passing "on a generational talent with the first pick in the NFL Draft."

Ward and Sanders are the top two quarterbacks, and they obviously provide more value, per se, given the importance of the position in today's game. But Hunter and Carter are more widely seen as generational talents, given the former's two-way abilities at wide receiver and cornerback and the latter's game-wrecking talents at edge-rusher.

Given Brinker's comments, it wouldn't be a shock at this point to see the Titans take Carter or Hunter at No. 1 overall and look elsewhere for a long-term solution at quarterback. It's clear where Jeremiah plants his flag on the topic of the draft's best player right now, though, as the pre-draft process gets going in earnest.
