Stephen Curry, Warriors Disappoint Fans in Blowout Loss to Celtics with Draymond Out

Taylyn HadleyJan 20, 2025

In a 2022 NBA Finals rematch, the Boston Celtics got their revenge, blowing out the Golden State Warriors 125-85 at Chase Center in San Francisco, much to the disappointment of the home crowd.

The Warriors were without Draymond Green, who was sidelined with a calf injury sustained during Sunday's 122-114 win over the Washington Wizards.

The loss ranks as one of the worst in Warriors' history and one of the most lopsided defeats during Steve Kerr's tenure as head coach:

Stephen Curry finished with 18 points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals while shooting 4-of-12 from beyond the three-point line in the loss. Moses Moody contributed 13 points, six rebounds and five assists off the bench.

Following the loss, Steve Kerr told reporters, "We got to flush this one down the toilet and get ready for Sac," adding that the Warriors' few blowout losses this season have been "demoralizing."

On the other side of the court, Jayson Tatum's 22 points, nine rebounds and seven assists while shooting 9-of-20, the Celtics improved to 30-13 on the season, while the Warriors dropped to 21-21, snapping their two-game win streak.

Jaylen Brown contributed 17 points, four rebounds and two assists, while Kristaps Porzingis added 18 points and seven rebounds to the victory.

Following the Warriors' blowout loss on Monday, fans voiced their disappointment and growing concerns about the future of the dynasty.

The Warriors won the first matchup against the Celtics in November with a 118-112 victory at TD Garden, led by Curry's 27 points.

However, Boston was out for revenge, starting strong with a 29-18 first quarter behind eight points from Tatum.

Jrue Holiday opened the second quarter with a made layup, adding a three-pointer, while the Celtics' defense stifled Curry, holding him to 0-of-3 from beyond the arc. Boston took a commanding 54-39 lead into halftime.

The second half quickly slipped away from Golden State as the Celtics extended their lead to 97-63 by the end of the third quarter, fueled by another 10 points from Tatum.

With the game well in hand, most starters were pulled in the fourth quarter as Boston secured a dominant 40-point victory.

Golden State will look to bounce back against the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday on the road.
