National Signing Day 2025: Predictions for Top Recruits Before CFP Championship

Joe TanseyJan 20, 2025

The Ohio State Buckeyes and Notre Dame Fighting Irish are focused on Monday night's College Football National Championship Game.

The second the game ends, win or lose, the two programs will try to finalize their incoming recruiting classes.

Most of the top recruits in the class of 2025 have signed, and in some cases, those players practiced with their new teams during bowl season.

However, there are a few key unsigned recruits left ahead of the February signing period.

Zahir Mathis, EDGE, Imhotep (Philadelphia, PA)

Zahir Mathis decommited from Ohio State back in November and could be headed to one of the Buckeyes' biggest rivals.

The edge-rusher from Philadelphia recently completed a visit to Florida State and has one lined up with Michigan this weekend.

Mathis said during his visit to Tallahassee that "his focus is down to" UCLA, Florida State and Michigan, per 247Sports' Chris Nee.

Ohio State doesn't seem to be in the mix right now, but 247 Sports still has him predicted to land with the Buckeyes.

Of course, a ton could change in the coming weeks with Ohio State and which players choose to enter the 2025 NFL draft.

The Buckeyes currently have five defensive line commitments from the class of 2025, but all of them are outside the top 90 in the overall player rankings.

Mathis is a top-160 recruit, and if turns around and lands with Ohio State, it would at least give the Buckeyes some quality depth on the defensive interior.

Prediction: Ohio State

Ty Haywood, OT, Ryan HS (Denton, TX)

Ty Haywood is the top-rated uncommitted recruit in the class of 2025.

The offensive tackle out of Texas decomitted from Alabama and could land at Michigan.

The Wolverines and Florida State are contenders to land the No. 20 overall prospect.

ESPN.com's Eli Lederman also mentioned Texas Tech in his latest update on Haywood. Lederman said the Red Raiders "have remained in contact" with the five-star talent.

Michigan might be the best landing spot if Haywood does not reverse course and opt back in for Alabama.

The Wolverines have been pushing to sign the top remaining recruits in the class of 2025, and they could use another top-rated offensive lineman to help in their run-heavy offense.
