WWE Opinion: 5 Reasons Big Show Should Turn Heel Instead of Daniel Bryan
At TLC, Daniel Brian cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to become world heavyweight champion. This made Big Show's world title reign the shortest in history. Since then, the two men have fueled up a rivalry. The only issue is, both men are faces.
Recently, there have been rumors of a heel turn coming for either Big Show or Daniel Bryan. In the last few episodes of SmackDown, it seems as if Daniel Bryan is on his way to turning heel. I completely disagree with this decision.
Since coming to WWE, Daniel Bryan has been a face. He has always been an underdog. Right now is a perfect opportunity for his underdog persona to shine through. However, it seems as if WWE feels differently.
Big Show has been both heel and face on numerous occasions throughout his entire career. I, for one, think he is much better as a heel. I'm not a fan of the big friendly giant gimmick and find it extremely boring. Everything about Big Show is perfect for a monster heel. However, WWE isn't making the change.
If Daniel Bryan does in fact turn heel, I will be extremely disappointed. I find that this rivalry will work better with Big Show as monster heel and Daniel Bryan as an underdog face. The rivalry between the two could be good, if WWE makes the right decision on who turns heel.
Here are a few reasons why Big Show should turn heel.
Big Show Has the Physique of a Heel
1 of 6WWE has always portrayed Big Show as a giant. Every time he comes down to the ring, the announcers talk about how he is the world's largest athlete and stands at about 7' tall and 480 pounds. Show's massive size has basically been his gimmick since he debuted.
I'm a fan of the Big Show, if he is used correctly. He is extremely athletic for his size and is great for David versus Goliath rivalries. However, in those rivalries, Big Show must be a monster heel. Show must be built up to look like an unstoppable beast.
Show's size is great for buildup. However, it isn't nearly as great when he is Mr. Good Guy. I think his size is great for a heel turn. WWE just needs to pull the plug on it.
Daniel Bryan Has the Look of a Face
2 of 6In the last slide, I spoke about the size of Big Show and how he should be used as a monster heel. Daniel Bryan is quite the opposite. Bryan is one of the smallest guys on the roster, as well as one of the best technical wrestlers on the roster. He is perfect for a main event underdog. Daniel has both the skill and the size to pull it off.
Since day one, the WWE has used Daniel as a face. He has always been the hero and most of the time is portrayed as the underdog. Now is the perfect time to continue his underdog gimmick against the Big Show.
However, to be a good underdog, Daniel must be a good guy. WWE can't turn Daniel heel if they want him to stick with his "dark-horse" gimmick. I think Big Show versus Daniel Bryan could be interesting, but WWE has to keep Daniel Bryan as a face.
Big Show Runs as a Face Has Become Stale
3 of 6About a year and a half ago, Big Show made his almighty face turn. He immediately entered the world title picture and flamed a rivalry with Jack Swagger. Right off the bat, I didn't like the direction Big Show was going. His run as a heel around WrestleMania 25 was outstanding and really made him out to look unstoppable. The buildup for that match revolved around Big Show being an unbeatable giant.
However, WWE decided to send Big Show over to SmackDown and turn him face. I thought it was a mistake, and as of now, I still think he should've stayed heel. Big Show is interesting when he is a bad guy. It makes Show look like a destructive monster.
Big Show has been a face for much too long. He is not nearly as fun to watch when he is a face. I hope that the WWE realizes this and turns him heel.
The Fans May Still Cheer for Daniel Bryan
4 of 6Since entering WWE, Daniel Bryan has always been a fan favorite. The fans adore him and went crazy the night he won the world title. While the fans cheer for Big Show, I don't think he gets nearly the same reaction that Bryan gets. That could be an issue if Daniel Bryan does in fact turn heel.
If WWE tries to pull off the heel turn by having Bryan act cowardly towards Big Show, it may end up failing. The Big Show may end up being the guy that gets booed. The fans are huge supporters of Daniel Bryan and could very well stay that way despite a heel turn.
For example, if The Rock acted as a heel towards John Cena, the fans would still cheer him like crazy. There comes a point when a wrestler has too big of a fanbase to turn heel. That may be the case for Daniel Bryan.
Michael Cole Hates Daniel Bryan
5 of 6Back when Daniel Bryan was on NXT, Michael Cole would rant on how terrible and boring Daniel was. It led to a very heated rivalry between the two. Now, every time Daniel Bryan is on our television screens, Cole uses insult after insult against Bryan.
Now, Michael is a heel commentator. He usually cheers for all of the heels and puts down all of the faces, especially Daniel Bryan. Now, if Daniel turns heel, what will happen to Michael Cole? Will he cheer for Daniel or continue to boo him?
Either way, it won't make logical sense. It would become one of many issues WWE has to work through if they want Daniel to turn heel. It would not only be easier, but more logical if WWE decided to turn Big Show heel.
Conclusion
6 of 6In conclusion, Daniel should continue his reign as the top underdog in the WWE today. Everything about him screams good guy. Big Show is the opposite. He is perfect for a monster heel, but for some reason, WWE disagrees.
WWE is going about this the wrong way, and I hope they realize it before it is too late.
