NFL Rumors: Kliff Kingsbury Won't Take HC Interviews Until After Commanders' Season

Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury will wait until the team's 2024 season comes to a close before taking head coaching interviews, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

The Commanders are currently preparing for a matchup with the Detroit Lions in the divisional round of the postseason after winning their first playoff game since the 2005 season.

The Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints have already submitted interview requests for Kingsbury and it's "believed" that the Jacksonville Jaguars might look to schedule a meeting as well, per Florio.

Before joining Washington for the 2024 season, Kingsbury previously served as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals from 2019-22. He finished with a record of 28-37-1 in four years with the Cardinals and was fired following a 4-13 mark during Arizona's 2022 campaign.

It's easy to see why teams are already interested in Kingsbury potentially returning to a head coaching role, as the Commanders' offense was the driving force behind their surprising playoff appearance this season.

Washington's averages of 28.5 points and 369.6 yards per game during the regular season ranked No. 5 and No. 7 among all teams, respectively.

Kingsbury's work with Jayden Daniels has also helped the rookie quarterback put together a strong inaugural year in the NFL. In 17 starts, Daniels completed 69 percent of his throws for 3,568 yards and 25 touchdowns compared to nine interceptions.

He also rushed for 891 yards and six more scores.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported on Jan. 2 that Kingsbury will be selective as he goes through the interview process with opposing teams instead of jumping at a head coaching vacancy right away.

As Washington looks to advance to the NFC Championship Game, Kingsbury won't be part of any interviews until the Commanders' season is over.
