Eagles Fans Raise Money for LA Wildfire Relief Before 2025 NFL Playoff Game vs. Rams

Timothy RappJan 16, 2025

A group of Philadelphia Eagles fans has raised over $10,000 on GoFundMe for California Community Foundation in an effort to aid in Los Angeles wildfire relief efforts ahead of Philly's NFC Divisional Round matchup against the Rams on Sunday.

The GoFundMe page reads:

"Now that we know the Rams are our opponent and obviously L.A. is dealing with some seriously crazy stuff right now, I thought it might be nice ahead of the game to offer some help and support L.A.'s way from Birds' fans (and especially after that horrible fan made life miserable for an opposing Packers fan and went viral for it). This fund is organized by Eagles fans in the Philadelphia area and beyond to benefit the California Community Foundation's Wildfire Relief Fund. We're still gonna kick the Rams' butts, but there's plenty of people in and around L.A. (Rams and Birds' fans alike) that could use some help right now. I know a lot of the attention is going towards celebrities but there are plenty of everyday people who have lost a lot during this and are risking life and limb to help others."

The wildfires in Los Angeles County have been devastating, with the Eaton Fire in the Altadena region—just north of Pasadena—and the Palisades Fire in the Pacific Palisades and Malibu areas now considered the two most destructive fires in Southern California history.

The Eaton fire has burned over 14,000 acres, destroyed 7,000 structures and killed 17 people. The Palisades fire has burned over 23,000 acres, destroyed 5,000 structures and killed at least eight people.

A number of other fires also broke out across the region—including the Hurst Fire, Kenneth Fire and Sunset Fire, which broke out in the Hollywood Hills near Runyon Canyon—as incredibly strong Santa Ana winds combined with a lack of rain in the area since May and low humidities to create the ideal conditions for such massive wildfires.

The Rams were scheduled to host last weekend's victory over the Minnesota Vikings at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, but given the ongoing fires, the game was instead moved to Arizona.

"There's some things bigger than football, and we owe this to our community to make sure that this game can be played safely and not be a distraction," Rams team president Kevin Demoff said last week. "Heaven forbid a single home or car, or god forbid, a human life was lost because some asset was diverted to SoFi Stadium. Or that a firefighter who's been working nonstop for 10 days had to stay on the front line to cover for a firefighter who had to go to SoFi Stadium. Or... a fire breaks out during the game and people get an evacuation notice on their phone. It's just not the right place to be holding the game."

Sunday's matchup against the Eagles will be played in Philadelphia as planned.
