Kristaps Porziņģis: Celtics Had 'No Spirit' and 'No Personality' in Loss to Raptors

Doric SamJan 16, 2025

The Boston Celtics surprisingly suffered a 13-point loss on Wednesday night against the Toronto Raptors, who rank last in the Atlantic Division, and one veteran wasn't happy with the team's attitude in the game.

Celtics center Kristaps Porziņģis told reporters after the 110-97 loss that Boston had "no spirit, no personality" throughout the matchup at Scotiabank Arena.

The Raptors improved to 10-31 after earning their second straight win, and they now trail the Celtics (28-12) by 18.5 games for the division lead. In the second half of Wednesday night's game, it would've been easy to assume that the situation was flipped and it was Boston that had been struggling.

The Celtics surrendered 33 points in the third quarter and failed to respond in the final frame, scoring just 15 points in the fourth as the Raptors pulled away.

Sixth man Payton Pritchard led Boston with 20 points off the bench as the team's starting five performed well below its usual level. Porziņģis led the starters with 18 points, while star forward Jayson Tatum had 16 points and 10 rebounds and star guard Jaylen Brown was limited to just 10 points. The team shot just 39.6 percent from the field and 34.8 percent from three-point range.

To add even more insult, the Raptors trolled Tatum on social media after the game with a photo of former NBA guard and podcaster Brandon Jennings, who has been engaged in a verbal back-and-forth with the 26-year-old throughout the week:

Despite losing three of their last five games, the defending champion Celtics remain one of the top contenders in the Eastern Conference. However, they will need to be at their best on a nightly basis if they hope to earn their second straight title.

Boston will look to bounce back when it faces the Orlando Magic (23-19) on Friday.
