2024-25 NFL MVP: Predictions, Odds for Award's Top Candidates
On February 6 in New Orleans, we'll finally learn which NFL player will be crowned MVP of the 2024 regular season at the NFL Honors show. The panel of voters, of course, has already spoken.
To look at the odds, the honor doesn't seem to be hotly contested. One player has emerged as the clear favorite.
But there's no question there are three specific players who have each made a compelling case to hear their names called this year.
Which players sit atop the odds in the NFL MVP race? Let's take a closer look.
Josh Allen (-450)
1 of 3
The Buffalo Bills trailed only the Detroit Lions in scoring prowess this season, averaging 30.9 points per game.
Quarterback Josh Allen tallied 28 touchdowns this season. That's fewer than he had the last four seasons...but Allen also only threw six interceptions this season, for a career-low interception percentage of 1.2.
That stat helps tell the story of Allen's season. He was as dynamic as ever, helping his team through the air and on the ground. But his improved control and decision-making helped minimize turnovers, allowing the Bills to run roughshod over opponents this season, with multiple 20-point margins of victory.
It's no wonder Allen leads the MVP race with -450 odds (bet $450 to win $100). But many of the arguments in support of Allen winning the honor also apply to the player with the second-highest odds: Lamar Jackson.
Lamar Jackson (+320)
2 of 3
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson comes in second in the MVP voting odds at +320 (bet $100 to win $320). But it truly feels like for every weight on the scale for Allen, a corresponding one could be placed for Jackson.
The Ravens signal-caller also took better care of the football this season, posting his second-lowest interception total (four) ever. Meanwhile, his touchdown percentage is up from 5.3 in 2023 to 8.6 in 2024.
Sure enough, coming in just behind the Bills in third overall in total scoring this season was Baltimore, averaging 30.5 points per game.
Something voters may keep coming back to as they mull over their MVP ballot? In the one game these two teams went head-to-head this season, the Ravens were dominant, winning 35-10. Sure, a quarterback is never battling another quarterback on the field of play...but when it came time to generate more offense than Allen, Jackson proved more than worthy of the task.
Saquon Barkley (+8000)
3 of 3
The 2024 MVP race is consistently described as a tight one between Allen and Jackson. Does standout running back Saquon Barkley have a shot?
The odds certainly reflect the fact that Barkley is in a different tier than the two quarterbacks. But there's no question that the halfback's 2024 season was incandescent.
Barkley became just the ninth player in NFL history to eclipse 2,000 rushing yards. He also had a career-high 13 touchdowns and averaged a career-high 5.8 yards per attempt.
It's been hard for Barkley to break through all the chatter surrounding Allen and Jackson. He may just have to content himself with being the odds-on favorite to be named Offensive Player of the Year.
