Vrabel previously served as head coach of the Titans from 2018-23, coinciding with Simmons' first five years with the team.

With new head coach Brian Callahan in 2024, Tennessee ended the year with a 3-14 record.

Simmons has expressed his support for Vrabel in the past, discussing their relationship in February 2024 after the coach was let go.

"We had a great relationship, and we still have a great relationship," Simmons said, per Jim Wyatt of the team's official website. "We communicate still. You hate to see it. You hate to see it happen. But things happen in this business, and like he said when we talked about it, it's going to be good. I wished him the best."

The Titans' current desire to discuss moving the 27-year-old is unknown, but they reportedly weren't interested in trading him during the season.

Simmons signed a four-year, $94 million extension with Tennessee in April 2023. He's under contract through the 2027 season and will have a $28.3 million cap hit during the last year of his deal, via Spotrac.

The 2019 first-round pick made consecutive Pro Bowl appearances in 2021 and 2022, but his individual production has steadily declined since. Simmons racked up 76 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 15 pressures, five sacks and two forced fumbles during his 2024 campaign.

Vrabel's team potentially acquiring Simmons in a blockbuster trade is risky, but a change of scenery could help him get back on track. The Patriots are expected to address their defensive line after their 28 sacks were the fewest among all teams in 2024.

Simmons seems to be interested in a reunion with his former coach as well.
