Spurs-Lakers, Heat-Clippers Expected to Be Played on Monday Amid LA Wildfires
After having games postponed this weekend due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers are reportedly set to return to action on Monday.
Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News reported that the NBA informed the San Antonio Spurs that they will face the Lakers at Crypto.com Arena on Monday night. ESPN's Ramona Shelburne also reported that the Clippers received word from the league that, as of now, their game against the Miami Heat on Monday night at the Intuit Dome will proceed.
The NBA postponed a pair of Saturday matchups in which the Lakers were set to host the Spurs and the Clippers were scheduled to face the Charlotte Hornets. Both games will be rescheduled for later dates. The Lakers also had their game against the Hornets on Thursday postponed to a later date that has yet to be announced.
Per Michael C. Wright of ESPN, the NBA committed to donating $1 million for immediate relief to the American Red Cross, World Central Kitchen and other organizations as Los Angeles continues to be devasted by multiple wildfires. The Palisades Fire destroyed more than 5,600 structures over 24,000 acres, making it the most destructive fire in the city's history. The fires have caused at least 16 deaths, and nearly 105,000 people remain under mandatory evacuation orders.
Lakers first-year head coach JJ Redick said last week that he and his family lost their home in the Palisades Fire. Spurs veteran point guard Chris Paul, a Los Angeles resident who used to play for the Clippers, said after Wednesday night's loss to the Milwaukee Bucks that he and his family evacuated their home on Tuesday.
"It's definitely scary, everything that is going on," Paul said. "I'm sending so much love and prayers to some of my closest friends and family who have lost everything."
Both the Lakers and Clippers will remain in Los Angeles after Monday's games, with the Heat visiting the Lakers on Wednesday and the Clippers hosting the Brooklyn Nets that same day.
