Report: Reggie McKenzie 'Lead Candidate' for Titans GM; Interview Schedule Revealed

Adam WellsJan 10, 2025

Having lined up several general manager candidates for their first round of interviews, the Tennessee Titans appear to have an early favorite among the group.

Per The Athletic's Dianna Russini, Miami Dolphins senior personnel executive Reggie McKenzie is considered the "lead candidate" for the Titans job.

The MMQB's Albert Breer revealed the Titans' interview schedule for the weekend, with nine candidates scheduled to speak with the team over the next three days.

The Titans confirmed the McKenzie and Dimitroff interviews on Friday.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Tennessee also requested permission to interview Packers vice president of player personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan.

The Titans made a surprise move on Tuesday when they fired Ran Carthon. He just finished his second season on the job, with the team going 9-25 during his tenure.

Even though the results weren't good, Carthon wasn't given a lot of time to oversee a franchise that needed to rebuild but spent money like it was close to being a contending team.

Last offseason saw the Titans trade for L'Jarius Sneed, then sign him to a four-year, $76.4 million contract. They also signed Calvin Ridley to a four-year, $92 million deal in free agency.

The biggest problem for Carthon was the issues at quarterback. Will Levis proved not to be the answer and drew the ire of head coach Brian Callahan at times for some of his in-game mistakes.

Tennessee's next general manager will have the benefit of picking No. 1 in the 2025 NFL draft. It's the first time the franchise has had the top pick since 1978 when they were the Houston Oilers. That worked out well because they got Earl Campbell.

McKenzie, who had a five-year playing career in the NFL, has been working in front offices since 1994 when he was hired as a pro personnel assistant with the Green Bay Packers. The 61-year-old worked his way up to pro personnel director and director of football operations in Green Bay.

After leaving the Packers following the 2011 season, McKenzie was hired as general manager of the then-Oakland Raiders. He remained in that position for seven seasons before being fired in December 2018.

McKenzie has been in his current position with the Dolphins since February 2019. He won two Super Bowl titles with the Packers during the 1996 and 2010 seasons.
