Carson Beck's NFL Draft Grade Before CFB Transfer Portal Decision Revealed in Report

Quarterback Carson Beck's decision to enter the transfer portal after initially declaring for the 2025 NFL draft was influenced by comments he received during the draft process, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel and Max Olson.

"A source said Beck received feedback that he could end up anywhere between the first and third round, with much of that uncertainty due to the fact that he would not be able to throw for a team in predraft workouts," Thamel and Olson wrote on Thursday.

The former Georgia passer suffered a UCL injury to his right elbow that is expected to prevent him from throwing until March, clouding his draft outlook.

Thamel and Olson noted that Beck received advice that he should "probably return and play another season" in college.

The signal-caller announced his decision to enter the draft on Dec. 28, but Pete Nakos of On3 reported on Thursday that he'll enter his name into the portal.

Beck opened the 2024 season with high expectations after his 3,941 passing yards in 2023 led all SEC quarterbacks, tossing 24 touchdowns compared to six interceptions while helping the Bulldogs finish with a 13-1 record.

He ultimately wasn't able to build upon his 2023 campaign. Beck completed 64.7 percent of his passes for 3,485 yards and 28 touchdowns, but he was picked off 12 times.

His overall body of work with Georgia still would have generated draft attention, as he was ranked as the No. 3 quarterback and No. 37 overall player on the latest big board from Bleacher Report's NFL Scouting Department.

Concerns surrounding Beck's injury and subsequent surgery appear to have made his exact draft range unclear, though.

There should be no shortage of interest in him as he looks to transfer. Nakos reported that "everyone expects" him to head to Miami for the 2025 season, while Texas Tech and Ohio State are considered "others to watch for."

If Beck can completely recover from the procedure and play at a level similar compared to his 2023 season, scouts should give him a much higher draft grade next year.
