NFL News: Mike Borgonzi Hired as Titans GM on 5-Year Contract After Carthon Firing

The Tennessee Titans have the new leader of their front office after firing general manager Ran Carthon following the conclusion of the regular season.

On Friday, the Titans announced they agreed to hire Mike Borgonzi to be their next general manager.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported the news.

"Mike's experience speaks for itself: he has been part of the core team that delivered four AFC championships and three Super Bowls over the past five seasons," Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk said in the announcement. "It's the type of standard I want to build here in Tennessee. I know we have a lot of work ahead of us, and I'm excited for Mike to get started."

Borgonzi has been an executive since 2009 and has spent his entire career with the Kansas City Chiefs. He served in numerous scouting roles before taking over as director of player personnel in 2015.

After two years in that position, Borgonzi became the Chiefs' director of football operations in 2018 before becoming assistant general manager in 2021.

Borgonzi was a popular candidate for open general manager jobs this offseason, as the New York Jets also interviewed him for their open general manager position, per Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer.

Borgonzi proved himself as an executive as he helped fuel Kansas City's resurgence that ultimately has led to three Super Bowls in the last five seasons. Now he'll get his first opportunity to lead a front office in Nashville.

Along with Borgonzi, the Titans interviewed Thomas Dimitroff, John Spytek, Ed Dodds, Matt Berry, Cat Raîche, Reggie McKenzie, Terrance Gray and Ian Cunningham for their general manager opening.

In Carthon's two seasons in the front office, the Titans won just nine games total and missed the playoffs both years. Carthon's tenure also saw the firing of head coach Mike Vrabel in 2023, two seasons after he was named Coach of the Year.

Borgonzi will now take over for a Titans team armed with the first overall pick in this year's NFL draft, and he'll have the exciting, yet high-stakes duty of deciding who to take with that valuable selection.
