Lakers Rumors: LA Isn't 'Satisfied' with Roster Ahead of 2025 NBA Trade Deadline

Doric SamJan 6, 2025

The Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline is just a month away, and the Los Angeles Lakers reportedly aren't done trying to make moves.

During a recent episode of Buha's Block, The Athletic's Jovan Buha reported that the Lakers are still exploring potential trades in hopes of improving their roster.

"My understanding, as I reported, is that the Lakers are still going to be evaluating the trade market, and they are not satisfied with the roster," Buha said around the 1:17:40 mark. "They want to continue to improve it and explore those opportunities, so I think a trade is realistic."

Los Angeles already shipped away point guard D'Angelo Russell, forward Maxwell Lewis and draft consideration to the Brooklyn Nets to acquire forward Dorian Finney-Smith and guard Shake Milton. The team is tied with the Los Angeles Clippers for the best record in the Pacific Division at 20-15, but is ranked fifth in the Western Conference.

Buha noted that while the Lakers have two first-round picks to include in potential trades, it doesn't appear likely that they will give up either of them.

"Now, does that involve a first or not? I think that is less clear," Buha said. "... We've talked about what other people around the league are saying or thinking with the Lakers, there's been some skepticism as to them actually giving up a first, or certainly giving up both firsts."
