Fans Theorize Drake Dissed LeBron James on 'Fighting Irish' Song amid Kendrick Beef

Mike ChiariJan 3, 2025

Superstar rapper Drake seemingly took some shots at NBA legend LeBron James in his new freestyle entitled Fighting Irish, which dropped Friday.

Multiple X users expressed their belief that Drake was alluding to LeBron in the song, including a line about them trading watches:

If Fighting Irish is indeed about James, it is indicated in the song that he and Drake were once close before drifting apart.

Drake apparently taking aim at the Los Angeles Lakers star and one of the greatest basketball players of all time led to plenty of reaction on social media:

Perhaps removing any doubt about Fighting Irish being about LeBron is the fact that the team name for St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio, which James attended prior to going No. 1 overall in the 2003 NBA draft, is the Fighting Irish.

While the exact genesis of Drake's beef with James isn't known for something, there is a good chance that it stems from LeBron's position in the feud between Drake and fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar.

Lamar's diss track about Drake entitled Not Like Us was one of the biggest songs of 2024, and he performed it multiple times at his Pop Out concert at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California, back in June.

James was in attendance and seemed to be enjoying himself, while fellow NBA players DeMar DeRozan and Russell Westbrook joined Lamar on stage.

LeBron, who is in the midst of his 22nd NBA season, turned 40 on Monday, making him the first player in league history to appear in a game as both a teenager and a 40-year-old.
