Raiders' Brock Bowers: 'I Still Feel Like I Suck Sometimes' Despite Historic Season

Scott PolacekJan 2, 2025

Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers has been a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing season for his team, but even a record-setting rookie campaign isn't enough to remove some self-doubt.

"I still feel like I suck sometimes," he told reporters when asked if he thinks he is now "kinda good" after being named to the Pro Bowl and setting multiple records. "Lose a rep here and there … it just pisses me off."

Bowers still has one game remaining in his rookie season and has already set the record for the most receiving yards for a rookie tight end and most catches for any NFL rookie. The Georgia product has 108 catches for 1,144 yards and four touchdowns.

Mike Ditka had the previous record for receiving yards for a rookie tight end (1,076 in 1961), while Puka Nacua set the record for rookie receptions in a season with 105 in 2023.

Las Vegas selected Bowers with the No. 13 overall pick of the 2024 NFL draft, and he has more than lived up to elevated expectations even with the team sitting in last place in the AFC West at 4-12.

He is a foundational building block that figures to be a key part of the team's offense for years to come, and he can still add to his record-setting numbers with Sunday's upcoming game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

If he plays well once again, the Raiders could finish the season on a three-game winning streak and take some momentum into the 2025 campaign. And perhaps Bowers will finally realize he is actually good in his second season.
