Week 17 of the 2024 NFL season isn't even finished yet, but it's already been an eventful one.
Multiple teams punched their playoff tickets, including the Washington Commanders, who are officially playoff-bound for the first time since 2020 after rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels' game-winning two-yard touchdown pass to tight end Zach Ertz on Sunday night. Elsewhere, the Los Angeles Rams wrapped up the NFC West, the Los Angeles Chargers secured their playoff spot and the Minnesota Vikings at least temporarily climbed atop the NFC standings.
The postseason field is close to crystalizing, which makes this a perfect time to break out the crystal ball and look forward to what might happen next. Intriguing Wagers to Consider
3 of 3
Baltimore Ravens +650
While the Ravens have struggled to carry their regular season success over into the playoffs, they might be better balanced than they've been throughout Lamar Jackson's tenure. The addition of Derrick Henry gave defenses even more headaches with this rushing attack, while the passing game has perked up thanks to Jackson's improved efficiency (career-high 67.9 completion percentage, 39 touchdowns against four interceptions), Zay Flowers' continued development and the rise of the two-headed monster at tight end with Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely.
Minnesota Vikings +850
Regardless what happens between the Lions and 49ers on Monday night, the No. 1 seed belongs to the Vikings if they emerge triumphant from next week's trip to Detroit. Shouldn't this positioning and season-long performance be worth more than the sixth-best odds? Maybe oddsmakers are having trouble forgetting Sam Darnold's largely disappointing past, but the fact is he's top-five in passing yards (4,153, third) and touchdowns (35, fourth) and has a host of playmakers around him, plus a stingy defense providing ample support.
Green Bay Packers +1500
The Packers might be 0-5 against the Lions, Vikings and Eagles this season, but only one of those contests was decided by more than five points. Green Bay is also undefeated against everyone else, so clearly this is a really good-to-great team we're talking about. The Packers are top-10 in points scored (27.4, eighth) and points allowed (19.6, sixth) and third overall in turnover differential (plus-12).
