LeBron James Hypes Eagles' Saquon Barkley for 2-TD, 109-Yard 1Q vs. Commanders

Philadelphia Eagles fans weren't the only ones amazed by Saquon Barkley's dominant first quarter against the Washington Commanders on Sunday.

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James gave a shoutout to Barkley in a post on X.

By the time the first quarter of Philadelphia's clash with Washington came to an end, the two-time Pro Bowl running back already picked up 109 yards and two touchdowns on a mere seven carries.

He helped head coach Nick Sirianni's team jump out to a 21-7 lead before the start of the second quarter.

Barkley's strong start was crucial for an Eagles team that lost starting quarterback Jalen Hurts due to a concussion. Philadelphia has already clinched a playoff spot, but a win over Washington on Sunday would secure a division title and at least one home postseason game.

The 27-year-old has blown past expectations since signing a three-year, $37.75 million contract with the Eagles in March.

Entering Sunday's action, Barkley rushed for 1,688 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also caught 31 passes for 276 yards and two more scores.

He's challenging for the NFL's single-season rushing record of 2,105 yards, which was reached by Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson in 1984. Even if Barkley can't break the record, he has also an opportunity to become the ninth player to surpass the 2,000-yard threshold in a single year.

James has been impressed with the Eagles' tailback throughout the 2024 season, repeatedly showing his support on social media.

After surpassing 150 yards on the ground in three separate games this season, Barkley appears to be on track towards another strong performance on Sunday.
