Video: OSU's Will Howard Hypes Oregon CFP Game, 1st Loss 'Doesn't Sit Right with Me'

Andrew PetersDec 22, 2024

Will Howard and Ohio State are a few months removed from a one-point loss to Oregon, and now the Buckeyes will get a chance to avenge that defeat.

After beating Tennessee in the first round of the College Football Playoff on Saturday, Ohio State has a meeting with the Ducks in the quarterfinals. The Buckeyes quarterback said he's excited to have "another crack" at facing Oregon after how the last game went.

"I'm excited, it's going to be a heck of an opportunity for all of us," Howard said. "I think we've all been looking forward to this one and for another crack at these guys. The way that last one ended doesn't sit right with me, it still bugs me. I'm just thankful for the opportunity that we get another crack at them."

The Buckeyes gave the undefeated Ducks one of their toughest matchup of the season in October as Oregon escaped 32-31 thanks to a field goal in the final two minutes. Howard threw for 326 yards and two touchdowns while adding another touchdown on the ground, but it wasn't enough to leave Eugene with a win.

Now Howard and the Buckeyes will get Round 2 of the newest Big Ten rivalry at a neutral site with a ticket to the College Football Playoff semifinal on the line.

Ohio State is just a few weeks removed from an upset loss to rival Michigan to end the regular season, but it looked like a completely different team on Saturday as it thrashed the Vols 42-17. After amassing just 252 total yards of offense against the Wolverines, the Buckeyes had 473 yards against Tennessee, finding new life in their most important game of the season to that point.

But Oregon is one of the most talented teams in the country and has its eye on a national championship. It won't have the advantage of home turf in this contest like it did last time, but there's no question the Ducks will show up ready to play next week.

Howard appears motivated by the way the last game went and he'll look to give the Ducks their first loss of the year while punching a ticket to the CFP semifinal.
