Dwyane Wade: Lakers Should Bring Bronny James Up, LAL 'Not a 'Championship Team'

Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade doesn't believe that Los Angeles Lakers guard Bronny James should continue to suit up in G League contests as the team deals with inconsistency.

"Honestly, bring Bronny up," Wade said on his podcast The Why with Dwyane Wade (18:00 mark). "We want to see that. I think Paul Pierce said it recently, I want to see Bron and Bronny, like a lob. I'd tune into the Lakers to see that this season."

"We want to see Bronny," he added. "This is not a championship team. This is not a championship roster at this point."

After he was selected by Los Angeles with the No. 55 overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft, James signed a four-year rookie contract. Most of his playing time to begin the season has occurred with the South Bay Lakers, the team's G League affiliate.

The 20-year-old struggled with his efficiency to begin his G League tenure, but he's shown improvement as the year has continued. In six games with South Bay, James is averaging 14.7 points, 2.8 assists and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 37 percent from the field and 23.3 percent from three.

He's been with Los Angeles at varying points throughout the regular season, but he hasn't been able to crack head coach JJ Redick's rotation. James has been on the floor for just 18 total minutes across seven NBA appearances, scoring four points.

The Lakers are currently in the midst of a three-game win streak and sit at 16-12 on the season as a whole, holding the No. 5 spot in the Western Conference standings.

Wade, a former teammate of LeBron James on the Heat as well as the Cleveland Cavaliers, is interested in seeing the father-son duo in extended action as Los Angeles continues to make its way through the 2024-25 season.
