Video: Tiger Woods, Son Charlie Reflect on Strong Opening Round at PNC Championship

Tiger Woods and Charlie Woods walked through their 13-under 59 opening round of the 2024 PNC Championship after earning a share of the tournament lead on Saturday.

Team Woods has competed five times at the two-player team tournament, most recently tying for fifth in the 2023 edition of the competition.

Team Woods recorded six birdies on the front nine, including one on No. 7 after Tiger Woods hit his second shot close to the hole on the par-4 seventh.

"I thought Charlie hit it over the gallery, and then I hit it in the woods," Woods laughed. "And then it was like normal, dead-on."

Charlie Woods, a high school sophomore who has been competing at the tournament with his father since 2020, hit a birdie of his own on the ninth hole.

"We were struggling with the read a little bit, but we got it dialed in," Charlie said. "I thought I left it short, then, for a second, and then it caught the front lip. Got a little lucky there."

Charlie then walked in another birdie on the 12th hole to help Team Woods stay at the front of the leaderboard.

"When it's rolling good, it helps," Charlie said about his walk-in.

Tiger Woods also gave credit to his son for the bunker shot that led to Team Woods' tap-in birdie on No. 13.

"This is a good bunker shot," Charlie said while watching the replay.

Tiger agreed: "Good bunk shot, tap-in, all Charlie."

Round 1 marked Tiger Woods' return to competitive play for the first time since undergoing back surgery in September.

He and his son are now tied with Bernhard and Jason Langer of Team Langer and Vijay and Qass Singh of Team Singh for the tournament lead heading into Round 2. The competition will resume on Sunday starting at 11:30 a.m. ET.
