NBA Rumors: Warriors More Open to Kuminga, Moody, Podziemski Trade Since NBA Cup Loss

Jack MurrayDec 20, 2024

A loss in the NBA Cup may have changed the Golden State Warriors' perspective.

Brett Siegel of Clutch Points reported on Friday that the Warriors have been "ramping up their activities in the trade market" since falling in the NBA Cup and that Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody and Brandin Podziemski could all be available.

"Ever since the Warriors lost to the Rockets in the NBA Cup quarterfinals, this team has been ramping up their activities on the trade market," Siegel reported. "There is certainly more of a willingness to discuss their young core of Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, and Brandin Podziemski in trade discussions than ever before, sources said, opening several possibilities for how the Warriors could attack the trade deadline."

The Warriors fell to the Houston Rockets in the quarterfinal round of the in-season tournament, 91-90. While a deep run wouldn't have necessarily made their season, it would have provided a momentum boost for a team that is contending for seeding in the Western Conference.

Golden State is currently 14-12 and sits 10th in the Western Conference. The team is 2-8 in its last 10 games and a shakeup could be good for a roster that is trying to salvage the back-end of Steph Curry and Draymond Green's primes.

Kuminga is averaging 15.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and two assists in 24 games for the Warriors this season. Moody is averaging 7.4 points, 1.9 rebounds and 0.9 assists in 23 games while Podziemski is averaging 8.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 25 games.

All three players are under 23 years old and figure to hold robust value on the trade market. While they could theoretically comprise the team's future core, maximizing the remaining years the old guard has left appears to be more of a priority entering the heart of trade season.
