2024 NCAA Volleyball Tournament Bracket: Penn State vs. Louisville Championship Set

The stage is set for the 2024 Division-I women's volleyball national championship.

Louisville knocked off Pittsburgh 3-1 in the first semifinal to clinch a bid into the title game while Penn State pulled off a reverse sweep on Nebraska to punch the final ticket.

Louisville entered the tournament as a No. 1 seed and defeated Northern Iowa, Purdue and Stanford en route to the semifinal matchup with Pittsburgh. The Panthers were the No. 1 seed and took the first set over the Cardinals. However, Louisville rattled off three consecutive set victories to secure the bid into the final game.

Louisville now aims to secure the first national title in program history.

Penn State is looking to stand in the way of history. The Nittany Lions had to unseat a strong Cornhuskers program. Nebraska reached the championship game in 2023 and both teams earned a share of the Big Ten title this season.

The Nittany Lions defeated the Cornhuskers in the regular season but early on it looked like Nebraska would be heading back to the title game. Nebraska took the first set 25-23 and the second 25-18, setting up three chances at clinching the victory.

Penn State was unfazed, winning the third set 25-23 and outlasting the Cornhuskers 28-26 in the fourth set. That set up a winner-take-all fifth set which, naturally, went down to the wire.

Penn State took the decisive set 15-13 to return to the championship game for the first time since 2014. The Nittany Lions are chasing the eighth championship in program history and the first under head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley.

The Nittany Lions took the regular season matchup 3-0 over Louisville but that game took place on Sept. 3, so both teams have had a full season of growth since then.

The final showdown is set for Sunday at 3 p.m. ET at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville.
