Report: Shedeur Sanders Prefers Raiders over Giants amid 2025 NFL Draft Rumors

Adam WellsDec 20, 2024

If Shedeur Sanders has his way, he will end up with the Las Vegas Raiders coming out of the 2025 NFL draft.

Per ESPN's Jordan Raanan, people close to Sanders and the Colorado program "believe" the quarterback's preference is to end up with the Raiders.

Shedeur's father, Deion, said on The Pacman Jones Show this week he knows the New York Giants won't give up the No. 1 pick if they get it and would select the Buffaloes quarterback.

The Giants are currently in position to earn the top pick in the 2025 draft, but they are tied with the Raiders for the worst record in the NFL (2-12) with three games remaining.

Las Vegas would most likely move ahead of the Giants if both teams lose out because the first tiebreaker is determined by strength of schedule.

Per Tankathon, the Raiders' strength of schedule based on their opponents' current winning percentage is .537, compared to the Giants at .550. Those numbers will change over the final three weeks, but New York has a more difficult closing stretch with games against the Atlanta Falcons, Indianapolis Colts and Philadelphia Eagles.

The Raiders' remaining schedule includes the Jacksonville Jaguars, New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Chargers. It does hurt their chances that their next two opponents are weak on paper and the Chargers might have nothing to play for in Week 18 since they could lock up a playoff spot by the end of this weekend.

Even if the Raiders or Giants get the No. 1 pick, it remains to be seen if they would prefer Sanders as the top quarterback in the class. It seems to be a close race between Sanders and Miami's Cam Ward for that spot right now.

B/R's NFL scouting department has them with the same grade on its most recent big board. Ward at No. 8 overall is ranked one spot above Sanders, but they both have identical 8.5 grades.

Sanders does bring an instant marketability with him by being the son of a Pro Football Hall of Famer and a high-profile player in his own right on a Colorado team that has been must-see TV over the past two years. This could be a differentiating factor for a Raiders team that needs to generate some excitement in Las Vegas after three consecutive losing seasons.
