Celtics Have More Wins in Washington D.C. Than Wizards This NBA Season

Zach BacharDec 16, 2024

It's no secret that the Washington Wizards have struggled to open the 2024-25 season, especially at home.

With a 112-98 loss to the Boston Celtics on Sunday, the Wizards fell to 2-11 at Capital One Arena. The Celtics have already traveled to Washington three times this season and won every single contest, giving them more victories in the same building than the home team.

Sunday's result represented the Wizards' third consecutive loss as well as Boston's second straight win.

On the season as a whole, Washington owns the worst record in the NBA at 3-21. Poor execution on both ends of the floor has contributed to the sluggish start, as the Wizards have also maintained the worst net rating in the association (via NBA.com).

Washington has young talent that has shown potential on defense such as second-year wing Bilal Coulibaly and Alex Sarr, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft. Jordan Poole is also averaging 20.3 points per game while shooting a career-high 39.2 percent from three-point territory.

All signs are pointing towards the Wizards missing the playoffs for a fourth straight season, though.

Meanwhile, Boston has won 21 of its first 26 games to begin the year while maintaining the second-best offensive rating in the league. The reigning champions have remained effective despite the absence of Kristaps Porziņģis, who has only suited up in seven games after making his return from ankle surgery.

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are both putting together impressive seasons once again, combining to average 52 points, 15 rebounds and 10.2 assists per game.

The Wizards will attempt to secure their third home victory of the year on Thursday, hosting the Charlotte Hornets. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. ET.
