Lakers Rumors: Bronny James' Status for G League Showcase Yet to Be Determined

Jack MurrayDec 14, 2024

Bronny James' participation in next week's NBA G-League showcase is up in the air.

NBA insider's Jake Fischer and Marc Stein reported that the Los Angeles Lakers have not made a decision on keeping James with the team or sending him to the South Bay Lakers for the annual showcase.

"The Lakers, as I reported Friday afternoon, have not yet made a determination about Bronny James' status for next week's G League Showcase," Stein and Fischer wrote. "The 20-year-old just played his first two road games with the South Bay Lakers and followed up Thursday's 30-point game in Phoenix against the Valley Suns with 16 points on Friday night. The Lakers' injury situation is said to be a prime factor that will decide whether Bronny stays with them next week or joins South Bay for its two scheduled games at the annual Showcase in Orlando."

James has played in seven games for the Lakers in 2024-25, averaging 0.6 points, 0.3 assists 0.1 rebounds while playing 2.6 minutes per game. He has seen much more consistent action in the G-League, where he is averaging 14 points, three rebounds and 2.5 assists in four games.

He was a second-round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft and is notably the son of Lakers star LeBron James.

The Lakers are currently dealing with injuries to Christian Wood, Jaxson Hayes, Jarred Vanderbilt, Jalen Hood-Schifino and LeBron James. Bronny James would likely find more minutes with these absences but Los Angeles could instead look to focus on his continued development.
