Chelsea Green Beats Michin to Win 1st Ever WWE Women's United States Title at SNME

Chelsea Green defeated Michin on Saturday Night's Main Event to become the inaugural WWE Women's United States Champion.

Michin appeared to be taking control of the match as fans chanted Green's name. Just when it seemed to be the end, a pivotal shift came Green's way.

Piper Niven interrupted, engaging Michin in a shouting match, but Michin sent her flying off the apron. Taking advantage of the distraction, Green countered with the "I'm Prettier" to secure the victory.

Saturday marked the finals of a tournament to determine the first winner of the WWE Women's United States Championship after SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis first introduced it several weeks ago.

Green's road to the finals saw her win a Triple Threat over Bianca Belair and Blair Davenport in the first round before upsetting Bayley in the semifinals.

While Belair was favored to win in the first round, she had to make the difficult decision to vacate the match after seeing that her tag team partner, Jade Cargill, had been taken out by a mystery attacker.

Green capitalized on that advantageous situation by pinning Davenport to advance to the next round.

Going up against one of the most decorated women's Superstars in WWE history in Bayley, Green was once again an underdog in the semis, but interference from Niven helped her pull off the upset.

Conversely, Michin got to the finals without any help after beating Niven and Lash Legend in the first round, and then Miss Money in the Bank Tiffany Stratton in the semifinals.

Stratton was perhaps shaken by a pre-match "pep talk" from WWE women's champion Nia Jax, who expressed a desire for Tiffany to win and vacate the Money in the Bank contract.

With Stratton's head possibly not completely in the match, Michin locked in and took her down, moving within one victory of making WWE history.

The Women's United States Championship is the first women's midcard singles title ever contested in WWE, and two Superstars who had never won a WWE singles title before duked it out for the gold on Saturday Night's Main Event.

Green scored the biggest victory of her WWE career on Saturday and will now be tasked with bringing legitimacy to a brand-new championship.
