College Bowl Picks 2024-25: Latest Odds and Predictions Against the Spread

Joe TanseyDec 11, 2024

The Army Black Knights are currently the biggest favorite in any college football bowl.

Army is a two-touchdown favorite in a battle of conference champions with the Marshall Thundering Herd.

While that number is big for a matchup of two top Group of Five teams, it actually might grow before the Independence Bowl kicks off on December 28.

The same could be said about the Florida Gators in the Gasparilla Bowl against the Tulane Green Wave.

Florida will try to use the bowl game as a momentum-builder for next season, while Tulane's roster is in flux after losing to Army in the American Athletic Conference Championship Game.

Army resides in an ideal situation to capture the Independence Bowl.

The Black Knights will only have a week in between the Army-Navy Game on December 14 and their clash with Marshall on December 28, so they get to treat their preparation like they have a normal bye week.

Army's roster is not in overhaul mode either, but the same can't be said about Marshall.

The Thundering Herd lost head coach Charles Huff to Southern Miss despite winning the Sun Belt Championship Game.

Starting quarterback Braylon Braxton is in the transfer portal along with a handful of starters for the team that went 10-3.

Marshall's roster could be decimated more by portal departures in the coming weeks, and if that happens, the spread could grow above 14 points in Army's favor.

The Independence Bowl will be the final game for some Army seniors, and they will have all the motivation to go out with a victory.

Army has an opportunity to make program history with a win as well. The Black Knights can set a program record in wins with 12 if they beat Navy on Saturday, and they could potentially add to that with a triumph in Shreveport.

Tulane vs. Florida (-13)

Florida is one of the few programs that will use the bowl game as a springboard into 2025 with most of the same roster in place.

The Gators finished the regular season with three straight wins to save Billy Napier's job. The run included an upset win over Ole Miss that knocked the Rebels out of playoff contention.

Quarterback D.J. Lagway had multiple touchdowns in each of his last two games and threw for 226 yards against LSU on November 16.

Lagway will use the Gasparilla Bowl to build a personal foundation for 2025, where he will be a candidate to be one of college football's breakout stars.

Tulane's quarterback situation has more questions since Darian Mensah entered the transfer portal.

Mensah threw for 2,723 yards and 22 touchdowns in his freshman season and he will be one of the most coveted signal-callers in the portal.

Florida having its 2025 starter in place and Tulane looking for answers at quarterback creates a significant advantage in the Gators' favor and it justifies how large the spread is for the December 20 contest.
