2025 NFL Draft: Updated Scouting Notes, Pro Player Comps Before CFB Playoffs

Dec 11, 2024

With all but bowl games and the CFP remaining on the college football slate, the 2025 NFL draft has become increasingly intriguing.

Championship weekend featured a few standout performances, offering NFL organizations insight into how top prospects have developed and where said prospects will land on leaguewide draft boards.

Here, we'll dive into updated scouting notes on several key prospects. We'll also offer pro-player comparisons beyond simplistic height/weight/length similarities to give you an idea of how each prospect's tools and traits could translate to the NFL. We'll also name a few other standouts from around the country.

Penn State QB Drew Allar

Reminds Me Of: Jared Goff

Stats vs. Oregon: 20-of-39, 226 passing yards, 3 TD

It was nice to see Drew Allar operate in the way he did in the Big Ten title game.

While questions remain about whether he will declare as a true junior or return to school for another year of development, his performance in the 45-37 loss to Oregon will hold weight for teams attempting to finalize his evaluation.

He delivered throws with confidence, stood tall under pressure, and ripped throws with varying zip and touch to a variety of levels.

Similar to Goff, the Penn State QB is a physically impressive talent under center with the arm talent, ball placement and mental acumen to lead a detailed offensive architecture.

Allar has played good ball under offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki this fall, and he has Penn State primed for a deep CFP run.

Potential NFL Fits: New York Giants, Las Vegas Raiders, New Orleans Saints, Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Rams

Arizona State RB Cam Skattebo

Reminds Me Of: Matt Asiata

Stats vs. Iowa State: 16 carries, 170 yards, 2 rushing TD, 2 receptions, 1 TD

If you don't know Cam Skattebo, now is a perfect time to become familiar with his name as Arizona State preps for a national title run.

The lead back and hefty straw that stirs the drink for the Sun Devil offense, Skattebo is oftentimes a one-man show in the backfield. It hasn't mattered if teams stacked the box or sent extra bodies downhill on running downs, Skattebo's ability to find open lanes has remained on full display all campaign.

Similar to Asiata, Skattebo's versatility will get him snaps, but his production when awarded with touches could see him outperform expectations early in his career. He's a name to watch as the Sun Devils enter the CFP following a Big 12 title.

Potential NFL Fits: Denver Broncos, Cincinnati Bengals, Washington Commanders, Tennessee Titans

Texas WR Matthew Golden

Reminds Me Of: Ricky Pearsall

Stats vs. Georgia: 8 receptions (12 targets), 162 yards

Still just a true junior, Matthew Golden was sensational against the Bulldogs in the 22-19 SEC title game loss.

Golden, a fluid moving weapon with outstanding body control and hands, consistently created separation no matter the looks Georgia threw his way, presenting vacant throwing windows for Texas QB Quinn Ewers.

Like Pearsall from last year's class, Golden is tough as nails, has the burst to threaten teams over the top and the skill set to holster the workload of a "WR1" within an offense.

Potential NFL Fits: Tennessee Titans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cincinnati Bengals, New York Giants, Washington Commanders

Reminds Me Of: Laremy Tunsil

Stats vs. Penn State: Zero sacks, hurries, QB hits, or pressures allowed in 35 pass protection snaps

Josh Conerly Jr.'s performance against the Nittany Lions will hold weight in the eyes of NFL teams.

A powerfully built tackle with the footwork and anchor to stymie opponents early in the rep, Conerly's success against Abdul Carter, one of the draft's premier pass-rushers, was impressive to watch throughout the Big Ten title game.

While Conerly likely won't hear his name called as early as Tunsil did in 2016 (13th overall), the hand carriage, depth in his kick-step and lateral agility showcase similar traits. Moreover, he's a player to watch closely in the CFP as Oregon searches for a national title.

Potential NFL Fits: Denver Broncos, Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots, Cincinnati Bengals

Texas S Andrew Mukuba

Reminds Me Of: Dax Hill

Stats vs. Georgia: 13 tackles, five run stops, 1 PBU, 1 catch allowed (-2 yards)

If you watched any of the SEC title game, chances are it didn't take long for Texas' Andrew Mukuba to flash onto your screen.

A transfer safety from Clemson, Mukuba was dynamic against the Bulldogs while showcasing his range, downhill instincts and burst throughout the evening.

Like Hill out of Michigan a few years back, Mukuba touts an immense athletic profile, a skill set that allows him to make plays in a variety of phases.

Potential NFL Fits: Arizona Cardinals, Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals

Tez Johnson, WR, Oregon: 11 catches (12 targets), 181 yards, 1 TD vs Penn State

Elijah Roberts, EDGE, SMU: 8 pressures, six hurries, two sacks vs Clemson
