Carson Beck Rumors: Georgia Insiders Expect QB to Miss Playoff Game with Elbow Injury
The early expectation is that Georgia quarterback Carson Beck will miss the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff, according to Zach Klein of WSB-TV.
Klein reported Beck is still waiting for the full results from an MRI on his right elbow.
The team announced on Monday that Beck is seeking treatment options, adding that there is no timetable for his return:
As the No. 2 seed in the playoff, the Bulldogs have a bye in the first round and await the winner of Indiana vs. Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1.
Beck, who was considered a Heisman Trophy candidate in the preseason, has blown hot and cold throughout his senior campaign. His 3,485 passing yards are the eighth-most in FBS and he's tied for eighth in touchdowns (28). He also has three three-interception games.
After the 28-10 loss to Ole Miss, which saw Beck throw for 186 yards, zero touchdowns and an interception, some even asked whether head coach Kirby Smart would consider a quarterback change.
That Smart stuck with Beck speaks for itself. He clearly believes the 23-year-old is the best option on the roster.
Gunner Stockton would be the replacement in the Sugar Bowl if Beck isn't cleared. The sophomore was pressed into action in the SEC title game and went 12-of-16 for 71 yards and an interception before he, too, was sidelined after a big hit in overtime.
Stockton's heroics to help seal a 22-19 win over Texas will certainly be remembered. His performance, however, didn't offer a ton of encouragement.
Georgia's national championship bid could be in serious jeopardy assuming Beck is out for the Sugar Bowl and any subsequent rounds.
