Caleb Williams Says Bears 'Got Our Ass Kicked' in Blowout Loss to 49ers

Doric SamDec 9, 2024

Chicago Bears star rookie quarterback Caleb Williams didn't mince words after the team's 38-13 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

"We got our ass kicked today and there's no way around it," Williams told reporters after the game.

The loss dropped the Bears to 4-9 and extended their losing streak to seven streak games. Chicago trailed 24-0 at halftime and was limited to a minuscule 162 yards of total offense while allowing a whopping 452 yards by San Francisco. The Bears were outgained 319-4 in the first half alone.

Williams threw for 134 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions while completing 17 of his 23 passes. He also added 27 rushing yards. However, he faced relentless pressure as he was sacked seven times and lost a fumble. It was the fifth time this season that he's endured five or more sacks in a single game, and his league-high 56 sacks taken this season are the most for a Chicago quarterback since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, per ESPN.

The Bears' performance was especially disappointing after the team fired head coach Matt Eberflus following its loss to the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day and hoped to begin moving in a positive direction under interim head coach Thomas Brown.

Unfortunately, things don't appear to be turning around anytime soon in Chicago. The team's final four opponents have a combined record of 40-12.

The Bears will try to end their skid when they meet the Minnesota Vikings (11-2) in an NFC North matchup on Monday Night Football on Dec. 16.
