Sam Darnold Thrills Fans, Ruins Kirk Cousins' Revenge Game as Vikings Beat Falcons

Sam Darnold's career day powered the Minnesota Vikings to a 42-21 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Kirk Cousins made his return to U.S. Bank Stadium after spending the previous six years on the Vikings, but the Falcons quarterback was overshadowed by Darnold's stellar performance.

Minnesota's signal-caller finished 22-of-28 for a career-high 347 yards, while his five passing touchdowns also represented a personal-best mark. Despite getting sacked four times, Darnold didn't turn the ball over.

Second-year receiver Jordan Addison was his top target, hauling in eight receptions for 133 yards and three touchdowns.

Justin Jefferson also found the end zone for the first time since Week 7, catching seven passes for 132 yards and two scores.

Fans were amazed with Darnold's poise and accuracy throughout the contest.

Cousins finished 23-of-37 for 344 yards, but he was picked off twice and didn't record a touchdown.

Atlanta and Minnesota were tied 21-21 entering the fourth quarter, although the Vikings pulled away while the Falcons struggled to finish drives in the red zone.

Atlanta has now lost four straight games to fall to 6-7 on the season as a whole, while Minnesota improved to 11-2.
