Fantasy News: Jets' Breece Hall Out vs. Dolphins with Knee Injury; Braelon Allen RB1

Mike ChiariDec 7, 2024

The New York Jets announced Saturday that running back Breece Hall will not play in Sunday's road game against the Miami Dolphins.

According to ESPN's Rich Cimini, Hall is dealing with a hyperextension and MCL issue in his left knee, which is the same knee in which he underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL in 2022.

With Hall out, rookie fourth-round pick Braelon Allen will make only the second start of his NFL career on Sunday.

A season that started with immense hope and promise for the Jets has turned into a nightmare, as they will almost certainly miss the playoffs due to their 3-9 record.

Expectations were high for Hall this season after he racked up 1,585 total yards and nine touchdowns last season, but his production has been somewhat disappointing as well.

Through 12 games, Hall has rushed for 692 yards and four touchdowns on 164 carries, averaging a career-low 4.2 yards per tote. He has also caught 46 passes for 401 yards and two scores.

Serving as Hall's primary backup, Allen has rushed for 240 yards and two touchdowns on 67 carries to go along with 12 receptions for 97 yards and a score.

Allen's opportunities have been limited in recent weeks, but he was effective early in the season, recording 170 total yards and two touchdowns over a three-game stretch from Week 2 through Week 4.

Even though Hall's efficiency has been down compared to last season, he has still been a valuable fantasy asset due to volume and his pass-catching ability.

Allen is not as good of a pass-catcher, but he did show some ability on that front earlier in the season, and even caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

With rookie fifth-round pick Isaiah Davis slotted behind Allen on the depth chart, all signs point toward Allen being the clear No. 1 back on Sunday and getting nearly all of the work out of the backfield.

While that may not necessarily result in a win for the Jets, it will be beneficial to fantasy football managers with Allen on their roster.

It isn't uncommon for unexpected players to come through with big games late in the fantasy season, and Allen could be precisely that.

Given that the Jets are essentially out of playoff contention, it isn't outside the realm of possibility that they will take a cautious approach with Hall, meaning Allen could be in line to start multiple games.
